Andean Silver (ASX: ASL) has reported fresh high-grade drilling results from the Laguna Verde Mine Complex at its Cerro Bayo silver-gold project in southern Chile, among the thickest and richest intersections found at the project so far, within 500 metres of existing mill infrastructure. The results feed an accelerated campaign aimed at expanding the resource base ahead of a fresh Mineral Resource Estimate, keeping Andean Silver among the more actively traded names on the ASX silver boards this year.
High-Grade Hits Near Existing Infrastructure
The latest assays extend known veins and pick up new mineralised structures around the Laguna Verde plant, inherited from Cerro Bayo’s earlier operating life before the mine went into care and maintenance in 2022. Andean Silver is evaluating combined open-pit and underground options at targets including Appaloosa and the Temer vein complex, where drilling keeps widening the known footprint. Management has flagged the proximity to the mill as an advantage for restart economics.
Building on a Resource Already Grown Sharply
The drilling follows a June update in which Andean Silver reported a 230 percent jump in indicated resources at Cerro Bayo, lifting the total resource to 20 million tonnes at 211 grams per tonne silver equivalent for 136 million ounces, split between 92 million ounces underground and 44 million ounces open pit. The company remains funded, with cash of roughly A$56.1 million, directed toward permitting, drilling and early studies rather than production. It adds to a run of South American resource stories that has also included Unico Silver’s expanding Joaquin project in Argentina.
What It Means for ASX Silver Investors
The news lands against unusually strong silver prices, detailed in our recent coverage of silver’s 20 percent August surge, keeping investor attention on ASX developers with tangible, previously mined assets rather than early-stage targets. Data from the Silver Institute points to a persistent global supply deficit underpinning much of the sector’s momentum. The bull case for Andean Silver rests on Cerro Bayo’s scale and infrastructure, while risks include Chilean permitting and sovereign factors, an unproven restart case, and reliance on equity markets.
