Andean Silver Hits Record Grades at Cerro Bayo as ASX Explorer Eyes Chilean Restart

Andean Silver (ASX:ASL) has intersected the highest-grade drill result yet recorded at its Cerro Bayo project in southern Chile, underscoring why the site has become one of the most closely watched silver-gold developments among ASX-listed silver miners. The latest infill drilling at the Trinidad vein returned a standout intercept as the company’s resource base continues to expand rapidly, a development that carries weight for investors tracking the broader silver sector.

Record Grades at the Trinidad Vein

Hole CBD342 returned 2.4 metres grading 15,558 grams per tonne silver equivalent, including a narrower 1.4 metre section at 25,340g/t AgEq, made up of 3,045g/t silver and 268.6g/t gold. Andean Silver described it as the highest-grade intersection ever recorded at Cerro Bayo. The result came from the first drilling at Trinidad in more than a decade, and the company says the vein remains open along more than 800 metres of strike, with historic drilling having tested only the top 150 metres of a system that plunges much deeper.

A Resource That Keeps Growing

Cerro Bayo’s mineral resource has grown from around 25 million ounces of silver equivalent to 136 million ounces in just over two years, split between open pit and underground ounces. Andean Silver is running an accelerated infill program designed to convert Inferred material into higher-confidence Measured and Indicated categories ahead of feasibility and restart studies. The project’s existing mill and assay laboratory, left over from previous operations, should help lower the capital cost of any future restart compared with building a mine from scratch.

Why It Matters for ASX Silver Investors

The news arrives against a backdrop of persistent tightness in global silver supply. According to the Silver Institute, the market is on track for a sixth consecutive annual deficit in 2026, even as global mine production struggles to keep pace with demand. That backdrop has sharpened investor interest in exploration and development stories with genuine scale. Andean Silver’s results add to a run of positive newsflow from the sector, following the site’s own coverage of the widening supply deficit and its implications for ASX-listed silver stocks. Silver was trading near US$58 an ounce this week, though it is the underlying discovery and resource growth story, rather than the daily price move, that is drawing attention to Cerro Bayo.
