Fitzroy River Corporation (ASX: FZR) has finished selling every Silver Mines (ASX: SVL) share it received for its Bowdens royalty, lifting total proceeds from the deal to about $15.7 million. The disposal leaves Fitzroy with no exposure to the Bowdens royalty buyback story, and it hands shareholders in the former royalty holder a clearer path to a cash return.
How the royalty deal played out
The headline price for the Bowdens net smelter return royalty was $17.5 million, split between $10 million in cash and $7.5 million in Silver Mines shares. Fitzroy received the cash in full. The share component was issued at $0.145, but Fitzroy sold its stock on market at an average of about $0.11, so the equity leg delivered roughly $5.7 million rather than the full $7.5 million. Details sit in the company’s filings on the ASX announcements platform.
What it means for Silver Mines
For Silver Mines, removing the royalty cleans up the Bowdens project economics ahead of a final approval stretch, which we covered after the recent planning hearings. A completed sell-down by a holder that took shares as payment also removes a known source of selling pressure, since a large block of stock has now been absorbed by the market. Investors should note the sale price sat below the issue price, which shows how much the shares moved during the process.
Where Fitzroy goes from here
Fitzroy has said it intends to distribute surplus proceeds to shareholders, though no amount or timing has been given and any return will need to meet corporate and listing rule requirements. Its remaining assets are the Weeks Royalty in the Gippsland Basin and net wellhead royalties over Canning Basin and Lennard Shelf tenements, so it stays an energy royalty story rather than a silver one.
The wider silver backdrop remains supportive, with the market in a multi-year deficit according to The Silver Institute. For ASX investors, though, Bowdens still has permitting steps ahead, and our silver news hub will track each one.
